There is finally some thought in Congress that it might look bad to let Social Security go broke, which is what we are on target for presently.
2032 is the year when the checks stop.
Lotta MAGA voters in Florida are gonna be up in arms.
So, the obvious fix is being proposed: raise the income on which Social Security tax (6.2% for wage earners and employers) is levied; and/or just get rid of the current level ($184,000) and have no limit.
That would fix the problem.
But there's a lot of gnashing of teeth in the rich people community.
Lucky there is another way we can fix the problem.
From years of reading The Economist I have learned that there are a lot of benefits that accrue to countries lucky enough to have deep and dependable immigrant streams: immigrants start businesses; immigrants hire people for those businesses, creating jobs; immigrants shop a lot, bolstering the economies where they reside; immigrants pay taxes, like Social Security.
So, my idea is that we create a cabinet level position in the executive branch whose prime function is to develop and nourish an aggressive immigration program for the United States.
Stephen Miller would be ideal for the job.
Maybe then we would only need to raise the limit on wages subject to Social Security levies to $500,000.
A pittance for the trillionaire class.
