It was awarding Joni Mitchell the Gershwin Prize for popular music from the Library of Congress.
It was wonderful.
I saw America.
Not donnieLand.
I saw love.
Not hate.
I saw a blend.
Not all white.
I saw love.
I saw America.
I saw what a lot of us - perhaps most of us - want us to be.
And what most of us want us to be is, is what we already are.
If only the haters were gone.
Once and for all.
But that's a lot to hope for.
