The Providence Is Still Holding?

Otto von Bismarck is supposed to have said "God holds special providence for drunks, little children and the United States of America".

Or somesuch.

When General Mark Milley apologized for accompanying the commander in chief to the then recently-tear-gas cleared-of-peaceful-protestors courtyard of a church across from the White House, my "special providence" antennae deployed.

They had been pretty dormant since 8 November 2016.

But they jumped right back into full fledged utility in the wake of General Milley's words.

In spite of that potential alert that our luck as a nation hadn't completely petered out, it didn't add much  to my "hope for the future" cache.

But since then: I have heard that same General explain why an American General might have reason to want to understand and evaluate the premise that we are now and always have been a pretty racist nation and that understanding "white rage" at being called on that fact might contribute to the well being of the Republic, and why the logical place to conduct that sort of analysis might be in the University that trains our military officers and prepares them for their duties as citizens and patriots.

And the recipient of what could be seen as nothing other than a brief, succinct and brilliant lecture, who is himself an accused sex trafficker and who represents the state of florida - naturally - in the House of Representatives, could only listen and smirk his little sex trafficker smirk.

I can hear Bismarck saying "told you so".
