It's a Merle Noire:
the European blackbird.
It is a thrush.
So is the American Robin.
That may be why it looks just like a black robin.
And, when it is across the Seine from your fourth story apartment, in a tree on the river, and it starts singing at just before daybreak, and wakes you up, you go back to another day and another time.
I took this picture on the Seine on 8 November 2016, a day that will live in infamy.
