Judge demands unredacted Mueller report, questioning Barr's 'credibility'

“A federal judge on Thursday ordered the Department of Justice to hand over to him a copy of the unredacted Mueller report and accused Attorney General William Barr of misrepresenting its findings in the days before it was submitted to Congress last year.

“Judge Reggie B. Walton, a federal district court judge in Washington, said that he could not reconcile Barr's public comments in April 2019 about the report with the actual findings that Special Counsel Robert Mueller outlined.”

On July 21, 2019 I made the following post to this blog:

After posting my recent post saying that the Mueller Report, so far as I have read it, to page 250, supports the assertion that William Barr is lying I realized that my reasons for that assertion constituted a fleshed out enough statement that I ought to offer it up in support of my assertion.

So here is what the report actually says:

There was massive Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

There were a large number of contacts between the trump campaign and the Russians.

We can’t find solid enough evidence of conspiracy by trump and his campaign to expect to prevail in court against the arcane and hyper rigorous legal requirements necessary to prove conspiracy.

This is significantly different from saying that the president is not guilty of conspiracy.

Collusion is not a crime and therefore has no part in this investigation.

The president has performed a large number of actions that could be obstruction of justice.

The only way to decide that issue is to prosecute.

Various factors preclude indictment of a sitting president.

There is, however, a constitutionally provided avenue for that prosecution.

Lacking the outcome of such an adjudication, we are unable to stipulate that the president is guilty of obstruction of justice or that he is innocent of that crime.

That is not what Barr has said the Report says.

However, the coda, the part that is unsaid in my summary, and, is obviously not part of the Mueller Report is that, since the Senate won’t convict, the Constitution is in checkmate.

So Barr’s version might as well be true.
