A Native Orchid

After spending most of my life knowing that every state in the Union has at least one native orchid, but never seeing one, I finally saw one one spring day when my wife and I were wandering in the Lopez Island woods.

Every spring since then I go to a couple secret orchid spots and see if I can get some decent pictures.

This is the best that I have gotten so far.

Here's what Wikipedia says about them:

"Calypso is a genus of orchids containing one species, Calypso Bulbosa, known as the calypso orchid, fairy slipper or Venus's slipper. It is a perennial member of the orchid family found in undisturbed northern and montane forests".
