Essential (thisamericanlife.org)
There is a rapidly growing body of news coverage about America's missing work force.
It has gotten so noticeable that all 25 republican governors recently cut off unemployment benefits because, they proffer, the workers are shiftless bastards that won't work unless you confront them with poverty; the fact that their jobs are poverty personified - they are functionally modern day serfs - is not allowed to be acknowledged.
This episode of This American Life - especially "Thank You Meals 12 Million" - documents in excruciatingly understandable terms what is really going on.
Contrary to what I have thought previously, it looks as if Ol' Mitch and the Boys are in for the challenge of their lives.
The workers of America have finally decided that they will "not go gentle into that good night".
There is just a chance that our country may survive and - even - prosper.
