In her book The Seine Elaine Sciolino talks about the old days when families lived on the Seine, earning their living from what they could do with their boats; those boats were also their homes.
Then she points out that even today, not a universally obvious thing, people live and work on the river.
I realized when I read that that I had been inadvertently documenting that fact for years with pictures that I have taken.
Here are some of those images; they are of boats and people in various stages of immersion into life on the river: some have big boats, and probably big homes to which they retire after a day on the river; some seem to live on their boats.
