Life On The Seine

In her book The Seine Elaine Sciolino talks about the old days when families lived on the Seine, earning their living from what they could do with their boats; those boats were also their homes.

Then she points out that even today, not a universally obvious thing, people live and work on the river.

I realized when I read that that I had been inadvertently documenting that fact for years with pictures that I have taken.

Here are some of those images; they are of boats and people in various stages of immersion into life on the river: some have big boats, and probably big homes to which they retire after a day on the river; some seem to live on their boats.
