In her book The Seine Elaine Sciolino talks about the old days when families lived on the Seine, earning their living from what they could do with their boats; those boats were also their homes.
Then she points out that even today, not a universally obvious thing, people live and work on the river.
Earlier today I posted some images of boats and people living on the Seine.
Then I got to remembering: I have some pictures of some other people who work on the Seine.
They are hard to get images of; they are usually moving at 40 miles per hour.
They have a dock just off Quai Bernard down by le Jardin des Plantes.
This one is actually the Rome Cops on the Tiber. They are less industrial strength than their Paris counterparts.
